The long-standing Ottoman rule dictated and shaped the history of the region over several centuries. At the same time, the Ottoman tradition left a huge and rich heritage in many spheres of life, especially in the cultural, socio-economic and demographic spheres. Generations of historians, architects, art historians, writers and other intellectuals have studied that heritage as a historical continuum of the past. One of the richest and most important segments of the Ottoman heritage in Macedonia is the heritage in the field of archival material.
