The State Archives Participated in the 34th ICARUS Convention in Budapest<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, the 34th ICARUS Convention \u2013 organized by the International Centre for Archival Research \u2013 was held in Budapest, Hungary. As part of the event, the final activity of the \u201cCreative Europe ATOM (Archives and Traces of Migration)\u201d project took place. The project brought together archivists, cultural workers, and scholars who explore the topic of migration, both historically and in contemporary contexts. Its aim was to develop new approaches for documenting and preserving the memories of individuals who have left their homelands for various reasons.<\/a>\u0437\u043b\u0438\u0447\u043d\u0438 \u043f\u0440\u0438\u0447\u0438\u043d\u0438.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the convention, Ms. Nikica Tasevska, MA, from the State Archives of North Macedonia, delivered a presentation entitled \u201cEmigration from the Prespa Region \u2013 Republic of Macedonia.\u201d In her presentation, Tasevska focused on archival collections that contain valuable information about waves of emigration from the southwestern part of the country, particularly the Prespa region, as well as internal migration from rural villages to urban centers. The documents reflect significant changes in the demographic structure and shifts in the region\u2019s economic life.\n\nThe three-day convention featured presentations by professionals from various disciplines, representing several European countries and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A growing trend across Europe is the closer collaboration among galleries, libraries, and archives in initiating joint projects. The study of migration requires an inter-institutional approach involving GLAM institutions (galleries, libraries, archives, and museums), aimed at preserving the memory of migration, documenting it, and ensuring access to related materials. Archivists, in particular, require additional training to effectively preserve traces of migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
