The cooperation between the State Archives and the Directorate General of State Archives of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey represents one of the most significant segments of the international activities of our institution. This partnership, which has lasted for more than three decades, is not merely an administrative exchange but a \u2018living bridge\u2019 that connects the shared history, culture, and collective memory of the two nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the ongoing cooperation, a delegation from the State Archives, led by Director Mr. Dimitar Bogeski, together with State Counselor Ms. Emilija Rop, Head of Sector Svetlana Usprcova, and State Counselor Dr. Adnan Sherif, is on an official visit to the Archive in Istanbul. The working meeting was also attended by Mr. Dime Ratajkoski, Director of the Cultural and Information Center of the Republic of North Macedonia in Istanbul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The foundations of this cooperation were laid in the early 1990s, and this continuity was further strengthened with the Cooperation Agreement of April 15, 2004, which enabled the exchange of experts, copies of archival documents, and the organization of joint exhibitions. A particularly important step was taken in 2012 with the signing of the Agreement on the Digitization of Documents from the Ottoman Period, which opened new horizons for researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result of this friendship, the State Archives today holds exceptionally valuable documentation from the Ottoman period, including collections of census defters, sijils, firmans, berats, waqfnamas, and buyuruldus, which testify to the socio-economic life in Macedonia through the centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most important outcomes of this cooperation is the opening of the Digitization Center and the new premises of the Department for Arrangement and Processing of Archival Material \u2013 Ottoman Period, on October 3, 2022. This project, carried out through a donation from T\u0130KA (Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency), enabled modern preservation and greater accessibility of historical materials for the scientific community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 27, 2024, the exhibition \u2018Documents and Photographs on Macedonia in the Ottoman Period\u2019 was officially opened in Istanbul. The exhibition, consisting of 34 panels and 136 documents, attracted great public interest. The publication \u2018Ottoman Documents on the History of Macedonia: Censuses from the First Half of the 19th Century (1831\/1833)\u2019 by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adnan Sherif, State Counselor at the State Archives \u2014 who continuously conducts research in the Ottoman Archive in Istanbul \u2014 was also promoted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State Archives remains committed to deepening this partnership, believing that archives are not only guardians of the past, but also institutions that, through education, digitization, and joint projects, build a future for new generations of researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
