On this day, March 20, 1554, the Albanian Catholic priest Gjon Buzuku began writing \"Meshari\", a work known as the first literary work published in the Albanian language. \"Meshari\" was discovered by coincidence in 1740, by Gjon Nikola Kazazi from Gjakovo, who was the archbishop of Skopje and apostolic governor of the Kingdom of Serbia. \"Me\u0161ar\" is a liturgical text that contains the Book of Hours and the Book of the Mass, which is why it is called Me\u0161ar in the Albanian language. Most of the work consists of translations from the Old and New Testaments. The original of the book is in the Vatican Library with the note Catalog: R.G. Liturgy III, 194 The foreword of the book testifies to the rich and cultivated language of the Albanian people in the medieval period. The book was written in the Gege dialect of the 16th century and the author's goal was to educate the faithful, replacing the common language of the Roman liturgy with the Albanian language. The subsequent words of the book bear witness to the rich and cultural language of the Albanian people in the medieval period. It is an important historical document not only for its religious content, but also for its linguistic and cultural significance.
