Reframing the Archive – Confidence, Progress, and the Future

The goals of the new leadership of the State Archives of Macedonia, led by Director M.A. Dimitar Bogeski, are openness and transparency from the very first day of the mandate.

In the first three months, a series of significant activities were carried out that strengthened the institution and laid the foundation for long-term development. These steps not only provide better conditions for employees and researchers, but also position archival work as modern, accessible, and internationally relevant.

In addition to the aforementioned activities, particularly significant are:

Renovation of the old repository of the State Archives of Macedonia, creating functional and secure working conditions, as well as putting into use office spaces for researchers and staff.

Renovation of the Bitola Regional Department, including improvements to the spatial and technical working conditions for the staff.

Establishing and regulating work discipline, with clear rules and increased accountability in the performance of work duties.

Implementation of employee promotions — the first in a long period — thereby motivating and recognizing professional commitment.

Training programs for employees aimed at enhancing professional knowledge, skills, and efficiency in carrying out work tasks.

Employee training programs aimed at improving professional knowledge, skills, and efficiency in performing work tasks.

Intensification of the core activities of the Archive – research, organization, and processing of archival materials – with a special focus on teamwork and coordination between departments.

Active involvement of the regional departments in work processes and decision-making through regular communication, meetings, and open dialogue, ensuring that the voices and suggestions of all employees are heard, with the aim of jointly improving the work of the State Archives of Macedonia.

In addition to the activities already carried out, the following are currently underway:

Renovation of the Skopje Regional Department, aimed at improving the spatial and technical working conditions for the staff.

Digitization of archival materials aimed at their long-term preservation, greater accessibility, and the advancement of modern archival practices.

Rationalization of the repository in the State Archives of Macedonia, as well as the repositories in the regional departments, with the aim of improving organization and more efficient use of spatial capacities.

Collaboration with universities to conduct practical exercises and teaching for students, aimed at connecting theory with hands-on work and fostering interest in archival activities.

Activities related to the succession process of archival materials from the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, focused on the protection, acquisition, and organization of archival heritage of national significance.

Not all problems can be solved overnight. Every process requires time, dedication, and continuous effort.

What is most important is that a clear direction has been set – for the Archive to be an institution that builds trust, ensures stability, and develops in step with contemporary challenges.
