USE OF THE ARCHIVE MATERIAL IN THE STATE ARCHIVE OF THE REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN MACEDONIA
Based on the authorization from the Law on Archive Material, the Director of the State Archive of the Republic of Northern Macedonia adopts Rulebook on the general and special conditions for the use of archival material in the Archive.
The Rulebook regulates the conditions for the use of the archive material by state, scientific, professional and other organizations and civil-legal and natural persons (users). In accordance with the Law, this Rulebook and other regulations, the archive material in the Archive is available for use for state, scientific and other purposes under equal conditions.
The State Archive may use: copies and documents from the archive funds and collections available to the Archive; microfilms and copies of archival material; scientific information tools for funds and collections and library material.
Foreign citizens can use the archive material in accordance with the Law, this Rulebook and the Rulebook for stay of foreigners in the State Archives.
The Rulebook confirms the general legal deadline for using the archive material (20 years after its creation), ie the agreed deadlines between the holder and the Archive, as well as the longer deadlines for use prescribed by the Government of the Republic of Northern Macedonia. If the holder who submitted his / her own material to the Archive has not determined the deadlines, the manner and the conditions for its use, it is determined by the Archive.
The archive will not allow the use of archival material if its use is not in accordance with existing regulations, if it would reveal a state or official secret or would violate the personal interests and rights of citizens. The use of the material can be postponed according to the criteria for longer terms of use, prescribed by the Government. The archive material cannot be used temporarily, for which the deadlines, the manner and the conditions for use by the holder and the Archive have not been determined, then the archivally arranged and physically damaged archive material.
The original archival material and certain documents of special historical and cultural significance are not given for use in their original form, except in exceptions, when its use is required by state, scientific and cultural institutions (for court expertise, expertise, etc.).
The State Archives Library has about 11,000 editions, of which 881 are rare books. There are 35 Old Slavic and church manuscripts, created in the period from XIII to XX century.
What is the vision of DARSM?
The State Archive, in accordance with its functions provided by law, is responsible for storing and protecting the archive material created in the work of: the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, state bodies, local self-government units and other legal and natural persons of the Republic of Macedonia. The vision of DARM is to arrange the deposited material in accordance with the archival standards, to protect and preserve it in order for better use by the users of archive material (legal and natural persons) and to publish it if necessary. Also, the vision of the State Archive is to preserve and protect the archive material which is of historical, cultural and similar interest for the Republic of Macedonia, while a constant commitment is the citizens to get the requested information as soon as possible.

We provide the following services:
a) Requests from the citizens of property-legal character;
b) Requirements for work experience;
c) Requests for insight into archival material for scientific research work;
d) Requests - inspection of files kept by the State Security Service;
e) Requests - inspection of the files from the Idrizovo Penitentiary;
f) Requests for archival material (documentation) deposited in the State Archives, in accordance with the Law on Archival Material.
Quality standards of the delivered services
a) Requests of the citizens of property-legal character, the State Archive responds in 10 days;
b) Requests for work experience, the State Archive responds in 10 days;
c) Requests for scientific research work, the State Archive responds in 2 days;
d) Requests - inspection of the files kept by the State Security Service, the State Archive responds within 3 days;
e) Request - inspection of the files from the Idrizovo Penitentiary, the State Archive responds in 3 days;
f) Requests for documentation deposited in the State Archives, in accordance with the Law on Archive Material (response depending on the document requested from 10 to 30 days).
