Meeting of the European Archival Group and Conference of the European Board of National Archivists (Helsinki - 19/20 September 2019)

Dr. Emil Krsteski, Director of the State Archives, on September 19 and 20 at the invitation of Mr. Jusi Nurteva, Director of the National Archives of Finland, participated in the 27th Meeting of the European Archival Group and the 40th Conference of the European Board of National Archivists, held in Helsinki, Finland.

These meetings are held twice a year, are organized by the country holding the Presidency of the European Union and are attended exclusively by directors of state archives from the member states of the European Union.

Dr. Emil Krsteski was the only representative from a country that is not a member of the European Union, which was an exceptional privilege for our Archive, but also an opportunity to be informed about current topics in archiving at European level, as well as the experiences of national archives of member countries of the European Union.

The main topics of the meeting of the European Archives Group, as well as the Conference of the European Board of National Archivists were: digitalization and the importance of technological development for the progress of archiving, as well as the need for greater transparency and openness of archives for unimpeded access by domestic and foreign researchers.

The participation in this event in Helsinki, by Dr. Emil Krsteski was used for a series of bilateral meetings with representatives of the national archives from Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Bulgaria, as well as with the President of the European branch of the International Archives Council, Dr. Charles Farouja, Director of the National Archives of Malta.

During the meetings, Dr. Emil Krsteski also visited the National Archives in Hamenlina, built according to the latest standards in archiving and equipped with the latest technology, launched in 2009.
