The book "Documents for the development of health in Macedonia (1944-1955)" was published in a selection, introduction, preface and editorial by Dr. Gabriela Topuzovska and Dr. Lidija Gjurkovska, using archival documentation of the State Archives. The health policies of the Macedonian authorities after the liberation are the subject of this issue, which covers the period after the end of the war and the formation of the Macedonian state within Yugoslavia, when the new people's government was faced with serious health problems among the population.
The assistance from the World Health Organization was of special importance for the health system in post-war Macedonia and consisted of equipping the health institutions, for the suppression of infectious diseases, primarily for the eradication of malaria and for the training of the medical staff. The assistance of our expatriates in the United States, Canada and Australia was very important, which was intended to equip the Clinical Hospital and the newly established Faculty of Medicine. The local population also contributed in the form of voluntary work, as well as a modest monetary contribution from individuals and institutions. Assistance also came from other Yugoslav republics, which sent their own doctors, pharmacists and other medical staff.
