23rd of October - Day of Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle

The determination for freedom of Macedonian people is symbolized in the national holiday October 23rd - The Day of the Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle, when in the distant year 1893 the determination and sacrifice to fulfill the ideals came to full expression. On this day, the Macedonians and all the nations that lived in this territory received the Organization that represented their aspirations for basic human rights, justice, and security. The founders of the Macedonian Revolutionary Organization were faced with the crucial task of equalizing the Macedonians with all other European nations that freely expressed their traditions and uniqueness. The intellectual elite consisting of Ivan Hadži Nikolov, Petar Pop Arsov, Hristo Tatarčev, Hristo Batandžiev, Andon Dimitrov, and Dame Gruev, met in Thessaloniki to open a new chapter in recent history in which the desired autonomy for Macedonia was conceived only as a transitional phase to an independent state.

The founders envisioned the Organization as a unifying factor for all those who were born and lived in Ottoman Macedonia, regardless of religion and nationality. At the same time, this revolutionary force had to be protected from any external influences. As generations, we can admire, but also learn from the commitment of the visionaries of that time, for the unifying and organizational abilities to lead a movement that will lead to the creation of the Macedonian state. The secret of dealing with difficult tasks is the perseverance and inexhaustible love for the homeland, as the members of the MRO had, who left a lasting mark in our history, and their values were permanently incorporated into the modern Macedonian state. Let us congratulate the great holiday October 23rd - the Day of Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle.
