International Archives Day – 9 June is celebrated every year in honor of the founding of the International Council on Archives (ICA) in 1948, under the auspices of UNESCO. The theme of the International Archives Week, which this year takes place from 9 to 13 June 2025, is: #ArchivesAreAccessible – Archives for Everyone!
This theme, chosen through a global survey with the participation of more than 300 professionals, highlights the crucial role of accessibility in archival practice. The goal is to encourage reflection and action toward opening archives to all communities, regardless of their location, abilities, or background. At the heart of the global archival community's focus is the issue of ensuring access to archival documents and services for all citizens— regardless of their social status, education, age, ethnicity, or physical abilities. The motto emphasizes the role of archives as a public good and a democratic tool that promotes transparency, accountability, and the protection of human rights.
The State Archives is actively participating in the celebration of International Archives Day and International Archives Week through intensive archival education for students and pupils. It supports the values of openness, professionalism, and public service, while continuing its mission – the preservation, protection, and provision of access to the archival heritage of the state.
