Bogeski: We have identified the problems in the Archive and are moving forward with strong steps.
In yesterday’s edition of the News on Sitel TV, the Director of the State Archives, M.A. Dimitar Bogeski, appeared as a guest on “Topic of the Day,” where he spoke about the work and activities of the institution. He pointed out that over the past ten years the level of performance had declined, mainly because the individuals who held managerial positions were not sufficiently qualified and failed to adapt to the environment. Instead, they served their mandates merely formally, simply to occupy those positions.
“It is good that we have already identified certain problems and have begun taking strong steps forward to address them, as you yourselves have witnessed, as you mentioned at the beginning, that we are becoming increasingly accessible to the public. People can see more and more that we exist, and now our task is to explain what we have in our holdings in order to encourage them to come and conduct research,” Bogeski said.
The Director called on private individuals who possess significant archival materials to submit them to the premises of the Archive, emphasizing that it is the only institution where such documents should be housed.
“When it comes to private collections, that is, private archival material belonging to prominent individuals or institutions, it is true that some of it is held by private persons. As the State Archive, we issue calls to those individuals several times a year. We have also established a commission which, in accordance with the rules of procedure, is tasked with locating this type of documentation, contacting private owners, and on the basis of purchase, donation, or another type of agreement, acquiring the material for the Archive. Once it is handed over, we assume responsibility for the documents and, through our departments and sectors, work on their processing and publication,” Bogeski emphasized.
