Working meeting at the Archives of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Historical Archives of Sarajevo and the Gazi Husrev-Bey Library

In the period from 30.09 to 04.10.2019 representatives of the State Archives: Deputy Director Dr. Muzafer Bislimi, Head of the Department for arranging archival material from the old period, Lili Savatic and Irfete Ibraimi, MA, Advisor in the Sector Research, Use and publication of archival material, international cooperation and ADP, were on a four-day visit to the mentioned institutions to initiate mutual cooperation. The directors of the mentioned institutions were offered a Draft-Cooperation Agreement as a continuation of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed on March 18, 2003.

In case the cooperation is approved, our institutions would exchange experts in the field of archiving for mutual specialization, would conduct annual research of funds of interest to the institutions and would realize exhibitions, which would later be presented in other centers in the region. , for persons and historical events that represent cultural bridges and connections between our countries.

First, a visit was made to the Archives of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a meeting with Deputy Directors Hadzija Hadziabdic and Dr. Shimun Novakovic and the Historical Archive of Sarajevo and Acting the director Velid Jerlagic. There we got acquainted with the working funds and the principles of arranging, processing, the way of signaling and storage conditions of the funds, the condition of the depots as well as the way of issuing the arranged funds to users, the work of readers and the rights and obligations of researchers. They allowed us a detailed insight into their inventory, catalogs and other scientific information tools. In electronic form we received the guides of archival funds and collections available to the archives. When the Draft-Agreement is approved, which should be specified by both parties and signed by the end of the year, and when the cooperation is realized, all the archival material will be available to us and we will be able to research and use them. funds that are of interest to our history and culture.

Of particular importance was the visit to the Gazi Husrev-bey library and the meeting with the director Osman Lavic, MA. We were very proud to be presented with the library premises, conservation and restoration laboratories, reading room, exhibition space and depots renovated with foreign donations and equipped with state-of-the-art appliances for maintaining a constant temperature and humidity. The library has several congress halls, which it rents out to institutions, thus supplementing the funds for financing its projects. When the Cooperation Agreement is realized, we would have at our disposal a space where we would organize joint exhibitions and other events of cultural significance for both countries.

At the end of the visit, the directors came to a common conclusion that it is of great importance for the affirmation and development of the archival activity in the region to have regular meetings and consultations of experts in this field who would exchange their experiences and improve the acquired knowledge.
