"OTTOMAN DOCUMENTS ABOUT THE HISTORY OF MACEDONIA PROMOTED, CENSUS FROM XIX CENTURY ON THE SKOPJE KAZA"

On March 1, 2021, organized by the State Archives and the Foundation "Ekaj" from Skopje was promoted the edition "Ottoman documents on the history of Macedonia, Skopski Sandzak, Kaza Skopje, 1832/33" by the authors prof. Dr. Muzafer Bislimi, Assoc. Dr. Adnan Sherif and Irfete Ibraimi, MA.

In his introductory address, the Director of the State Archives Dr. Emil Krsteski told the audience that the institution pays great attention to the publication of Turkish documents on the history of Macedonia, as an invaluable source for various historical phenomena and processes. Dr. Emil Krsteski pointed out that the State Archive with its partners from the Republic of Turkey has a very fruitful cooperation for almost three decades.

The authors of the edition, prof. Dr. Muzafer Bislimi and Assoc. Dr. Adnan Sherif, emphasized that these are the first modern censuses conducted in the Ottoman state equivalent to today's registry books. This issue covers important facts about the population and personal data from the households that were enumerated. In that way, as the authors pointed out, an incentive is given for the study of the population in Macedonia from several aspects.

"Ottoman Documents on the History of Macedonia, Skopski Sandzak, Kaza Skopje, 1832/33" is a continuation of a series of editions that began to be published by the State Archives in 2018 and 2019 for the census of the Islamic population for the Kichevo and Tetovo Kaza.

The promotion was enriched with the opening of the exhibition "200,000 Yugoslav Emigrants" by the journalist Murteza Suloodza.
