This year we mark the 81st anniversary of the organized start of the National Liberation Struggle of the Macedonian people and other nationalities, which we celebrate at the state level as the Day of the People's Uprising. On this day in 1941, Macedonia chose the right path of opposition to the greatest evils in the history of mankind – Nazism and fascism. Thanks to the generation that then sacrificed for freedom and that stood on the side of the alliance of the Anti-Fascist Party, today we have our own state with established institutions, which strives to be part of the European family of nations.
The uprising against the occupying forces in the Vardar part of Macedonia began with the attack on the Bulgarian police station, the prison and the telephone lines in Prilep by the "Goce Delchev" partisan detachment. Asparuh Josifoski, Duško Naumoski, Blaže Spirkoski, Milan Dimoski, Dragan Spirkoski, Nikola Poposki, Mice Kozar, Peco Krsteski, Jonče Janeski, Blagoja Korubin, Dushko Risteski, Mice Dimeski, Krste Crvenkovski, Kole Čašule, Kiro Kjososki, Kiro Bazerkoski and others participated in the attack. Because of this heroic feat their names are permanently engraved in the memory of citizens of Prilep and the country.
Every year on October 11, we remember this event, which is a milestone in the struggle for independence, and we can rightly confirm that the fighters of the National Liberation Struggle, along the progressive libertarian forces from other nations, made a great contribution to the global victory over fascism.
The State Archives, as an institution that preserves and promotes national history, has numerous documents on the National Liberation Struggle, while particularly important for this holiday is the document from the Presidency of the National Assembly dated 8 September 1945, declaring 11 of October a national holiday.
