CALL FOR SUBMISSION OF PROPOSALS FOR PUBLICATION IN 2026

In accordance with the Publication Regulation No. 01-1915/1 of July 17, 2025, the State Archives announces a call for submission of proposals for publication in 2026.

Note: Proposals must be submitted exclusively by email to publikuvanje@arhiv.gov.mk or in person at the State Archives.

The publication of archival material and scientific-informative resources represents an important function of the State Archive of the Republic of North Macedonia. In this context, the Archive focuses on publishing archival material that is significant for the history of the Macedonian people and Macedonia. Within its publishing activity, various publications are issued. “For a wider range of scholars and researchers, aimed at meeting the needs for faithful reproduction of the original, but also for clarity and comprehensibility of the text.” These are criteria that are generally accepted worldwide.

I Guidelines for the Submission of Proposals

1. The Publishing Commission shall take into consideration the following types of publications:

            – publications dealing with professional archival topics;

– monographs, i.e., peer-reviewed publications that thoroughly and comprehensively

              – examine a specific event, issue, question, topic, or historical figure from the history of Macedonia;

            – collections of documents originating from the archival holdings of the State Archives or from foreign archives, which are of exceptional significance for the history of the Macedonian people;

            -expert and periodical publications in the field of archiving;

            -other types of publications as specified in Article 2 of the Publishing Regulations of the State Archives.

2. Content of the Proposal

– It is necessary to complete the Proposal Submission Form, available in Word format on the website arhiv.mk, alongside the call. The form must be submitted in scanned form, signed by the authors, and include the proposed timeframe for publication. Concerning the approximate length of the material, the number of author’s sheets should be indicated, with 1 author’s sheet corresponding to 30,000 characters, including spaces.

-if the manuscript is finished, it can be submitted along with the Form.

3. Deadline for Submission of Proposals

Deadline for Submitting Proposals The deadline for submitting proposals for publication is until October 20, 2025. Proposals submitted before or after the deadline will not be considered by the Publishing Committee.

4. Additional Information

- Authors who have submitted proposals will be notified in writing about the acceptance or rejection of their manuscripts by no later than November 5, 2025. The timeline for preparing the accepted publication is until March 31, 2026. A proposal for publication to the Publishing Commission of the State Archives shall be submitted by the author(s) or editor(s). Authors whose manuscripts were published by the State Archives in the previous year are not eligible to apply under the current call for publication. The State Archives shall appoint two reviewers for each accepted manuscript. Following the submission of the manuscript and the receipt of a positive review, the State Archives shall enter into an agreement with the author(s) and determine whether the publication will be issued exclusively in print, exclusively in electronic format, or in both print and electronic formats.

II Guidelines for Preparing Publications The manuscript preparation guidelines can be found at the web page in the section Makedonski Arhivist.

1. When preparing the manuscripts, they must be created in electronic form using Macedonian language support in a program such as MS Word, and saved in document format (**.doc). The use of the Times New Roman font is mandatory. In the main text, the font size should be 12 pt with 1.5 line spacing. In the footnotes, the font size should be 10 pt with single line spacing. If the manuscript does not comply with these guidelines, it will not be accepted; only a fully formatted text in Word will be allowed for further processing at the Archive.

2. If foreign language material is used in the publication, the author/editor is required to submit a translation of the publication into Macedonian. The costs for the translation are the responsibility of the author/editor.

3. If archival material not deposited in the State Archives of the Republic of North Macedonia is used in the publication, the author/editor must provide a copy in electronic or printed form to the State Archives.

The author or editor must submit the manuscript to the Commission in a properly formatted manner (including footnotes, notes, photographs, registers of personal names, registers of geographical terms, abbreviations, etc.), either in printed or electronic form with Macedonian support, within the deadline specified in the call for proposals for publication.
