"Macedonia in CIA Documents" is a research and selection of particularly important declassified US intelligence documents on Macedonia, located at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and published on its website: https : //www.cia.gov/library/readingroom/. The editor had the opportunity to conduct initial research on unpublished documents related to the history of Macedonia, which are deposited in the US National Archives and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., as well as at the US Army Institute of Military History in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
The first volume begins with the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) document on the outgoing US intelligence interests in Macedonia of December 6, 1944 as an introductory document on the initial activities and interests of the US intelligence services towards Macedonia and the Macedonians. The US Office of Strategic Services, from which the CIA was later created, in this document analyzes the aspects of the creation of the Macedonian state, the national identity of the Macedonians and the complexity of the Macedonian question. In fact, the first document in the edition establishes a kind of framework for the statehood of Macedonia and the national identity of the Macedonians, within which all further actions of the US intelligence services will move. That document is moved to section 1 of the first volume. In the first volume as part 2 are published the documents of the Central Intelligence Group (CIG) named after the CIA terminology from 1946 until the transformation of the Central Intelligence Group in the CIA as of April 1948. Section 3 of the first volume contains CIA documents from 1948 to 1950.
Volume 1 of the edition published a total of 186 documents chronologically arranged, with different forms and contents, which enable the public to gain knowledge and insight into the manner and methods of functioning of the CIA, which since its inception has had great interest in acting. in Macedonia. The primary interest in the selection of documents for this edition is the mention of Macedonia and the Macedonians in research and analysis, intelligence reports, information reports, special reports, assessments and notes, bulletins, memoranda and daily and weekly reviews of open source and other CIA documents. , often rated as the most confidential or top secret (TOP SECRET).
The documents that we publish in facsimile are given originally with an indication on the website under which they are available in the CIA electronic archive and the date of the last check.
The researched documents from the CIA archive are important material for the Macedonian historical science and especially important scientific argumentation for dealing with the challenges in the foreign policy. Having in mind the importance of the testimonies of the American intelligence services for the Macedonians, we publish the documents in facsimiles with translation and comments in Macedonian language in the two-volume edition "Macedonia in the CIA documents".
