The Director of the State Archives, Dr. Emil Krsteski, on September 12, 2019 met with the Ambassador of France in our country, HE Christian Timonier, accompanied by Ms. Gilles Maraval, Attaché for Cooperation at the French Embassy and his Chief of Staff, Ms. Jacqueline Pop-Angelova.
The Director Dr. Emil Krsteski informed the Ambassador about the importance and the way of functioning and the organizational set-up of the State Archive, with special emphasis on the digitalization and computerization of the institution. They also talked about the research and publishing activity, as well as the intention of the State Archives in modern times and its promotion through greater openness to the public and respect for the right of citizens to free access to public information.
The Director of the State Archives emphasized that the activities within the location and recording of documents related to the history of our country and the digitalization of archival funds continue, with the intention that they can be protected from damage, but at the same time with the electronic search have greater availability. In that sense, the director Dr. Emil Krsteski emphasized that the experience and cooperation with the relevant archival institutions from France will be of great importance and benefit.
The French Ambassador, Christian Timonier, who is himself a historian by profession, showed great interest in the activities and projects of the State Archives. He spoke about the role and functioning of the archives in France and stressed that he would be pleased to mediate in the establishment of official contacts and meetings of the State Archives with the relevant archival institutions in France. At the end of the visit to the State Archives, the Ambassador together with the Director, made a tour of our permanent exhibition of documents, books and photographs, which are of historical significance and got acquainted with the working conditions in the institution.
