The State Archives of the Republic of North Macedonia congratulates the citizens of the Roma community on the International Day of the Roma - a day dedicated to the tradition, history and culture of the Roma and raising awareness for the advancement of the rights and freedoms of the members of the Roma community, with the aim of improving social and economic integration in all social spheres. The eighth of April is celebrated all over the world, in honor of the first World Roma Congress, held from April 7 to 12, 1971 in London, where Roma representatives from 14 countries in the world met. At the congress, the most important decisions were adopted, such as the Roma flag and the official anthem. The blue and green colors of the flag symbolize heaven and earth, and the red wheel represents the journeys and migrations of the Roma. The official Roma language and the acceptance of the name "Roma", which means human, were also declared.
