In the Dutch cities of Sittard and Maastricht, the 30th Convention of the International Council for Archival Research - ICARUS is being held, on the topic: "Archives and traces of migration". At the meeting, the main discussion is about the way in which archives in the world deal with migration processes, especially with archival material that testifies to migration.
The Director of the State Archives, Dr. Emil Krsteski, participating in the panel discussions, emphasized that in recent times we are faced with the migration of highly educated people from the Balkan countries to Europe and the world, for which there is no accurate record and which represents a serious problem for many countries . "Migration is a topic that is particularly important even today, and its traces are visible in the archives in Europe only with examples from the past. Most organizations and institutions should more often discuss and share ideas, visions and specific projects related to this topic, in order to create new partnerships, but also opportunities for planning and implementing new projects in relation to recording migrations in recent times" – emphasized the director of the State Archive, Dr. Emil Krsteski. The General Assembly of ICARUS unanimously accepted his proposal to hold the 31st Convention of this international organization in autumn in Skopje and Ohrid.
Several workshops were also held at the Convention, and during the General Assembly, Mrs. Birgit Kibal, from the National Archives of Estonia, was elected as the new president of ICARUS, and the new members of ICARUS - the consortium and the new members of its Executive Board were also introduced.
