11 of October - People's Uprising Day

This year we mark the 82nd anniversary of the beginning of the organized People's Liberation War of the Macedonian people and the other nationalities, which is celebrated as a national holiday as the People's Uprising Day. On this date in 1941, Macedonia chose the right way to oppose the biggest evils in the human history - the Nazism and Fascism. Thanks to the generation which sacrificed itself for the freedom, and took the side of the allies of the Antifascist coalition, today we have our own state with established institutions, which strives to be a part of the European family of peoples.

The uprising against the oppressor in the Vardar Macedonia began with the attack of the Bulgarian Police Station, the Prison and the telephone lines in Prilep by the partisan squad Goce Delchev. The attack was carried out by Asparuh Josifoski, Dushko Naumoski, blazhe Spirkoski, Milan Dimoski, Dragan Spirkoski, Nikola Poposki, Mice Kozar, Peco Krsteski, jonche Kaneski, Blagoja Korubin, Dusko Risteski, Mice Dimeski, Krste Crvenkovski, Kole Chashule, Kiro Kjososki, Kiro Bazerkoski, etc. Their names are forever engraved in the memory of the people of Prilep and the country, because of their heroic deed.

Every year on October 11, we remember this event, which is a milestone in the struggle for independence, and we can rightly confirm that the fighters of the National Liberation Struggle, along the progressive libertarian forces from other nations, made a great contribution to the global victory over fascism.

The State Archives, as an institution that preserves and promotes national history, has numerous documents on the National Liberation Struggle, while particularly important for this holiday is the document from the Presidency of the National Assembly dated 8 September 1945, declaring 11 of October a national holiday.
