Starting from the need for meetings among the employees of the State Archives to exchange views and hold professional discussions aimed at advancing archival activities, the new leadership initiated the organization of the First General Consultation for Archive Workers. The consultation was held on November 5, 2024, at the National Museum of the Macedonian Struggle for Independence, with the attendance of archivists from the central office of the State Archives of the Republic of North Macedonia (DARM) and its nine branches from other cities. The event was opened with welcome speeches by the director, Dr. Nataša Kotlar, and Mr. Dimitar Bogeski, who greeted the attendees and highlighted their expectations for the consultation.
During the First General Consultation for Archive Workers, held on November 5, 2024, archivists from various sectors presented papers offering solutions for the development of archival activities and institutional operations. These presentations sparked constructive debates, leading to the idea of organizing new thematic consultations. The event also promoted the initiative to revive the Association of Archivists, aiming to affirm the archivist profession. Discussions on union organization within the Archive were on the agenda, with Mr. Trpe Deanoski, President of the Union of Administration, Judiciary, and Citizens’ Associations (UPOZ), invited to attend and address the participants. The union representative spoke about the vision for achieving greater workers’ rights. The event was further enriched by the presence of retired professionals from the Archives, who expressed their readiness to share their expertise with younger colleagues.
Consultations among archivists in the past were a tradition and also part of the ongoing work of the State Archives. The current leadership prioritizes creating a positive social atmosphere within the institution and utilizing all resources that will contribute to the rightful position of the State Archives in society. The open and constructive discussions on the strengths and weaknesses in institutional operations, which were highlighted in the form of papers, will be published in a special edition.
