Archivists hold a creative profession and bear significant responsibility in preserving national memory. By presenting archival science as a profession to secondary school students, the State Archives contribute to shaping the career orientation of young people. Yesterday, first-year students from SSCS “Panče Arsovski” in Skopje conducted an educational visit to the Archives, accompanied by their subject teacher, Spase Blaževski.
In the role of archival educator, archivist Nazmije Kurtish introduced the students to the importance of documents as testimonies of the past, intended for the present and the future. Librarian Lemka Ramadanova familiarized the students with the book collection of the archive library, as well as the procedures for accessing archive materials and books. Documents as sources for the history of Macedonia during the Ottoman period were presented by Mustafa Alioski. The preservation, i.e., the protection of documents in the Department for Conservation and Restoration of Archive Materials, was presented by Tulaj Ademi as an exceptionally important process.
The Deputy Director, Mr. Dimitar Bogeski, M.A., welcomed the students to his office, where they engaged in a discussion about their impressions of archive work and the potential of choosing archival science as a future profession. On that occasion, he conveyed to them that they are always welcome at the institution.
