Online meeting with Yad Vashem to enhance cooperation and digitization of archival materials on the Jews of Macedonia

After the visit of the Israeli Ambassador, H.E. Vivien Aisen, to the Bitola Department of the State Archives and the expressed commitment to enhancing cooperation with relevant institutions in Israel, an online meeting was held today between the Director of the State Archives, Mr. Dimitar Bogeski, MSc, and representatives of Yad Vashem – the World Holocaust Remembrance Center based in Jerusalem, attended also by the Ambassador. During the meeting, several possibilities were discussed for the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement with Yad Vashem, which the State Archives signed at the beginning of 2023. The cooperation will focus on the creation of a unified database and the digitization of the entire archival material related to the Jews of Macedonia preserved in the repositories of the State Archives. Special emphasis was placed on materials concerning the Jews from Štip, Bitola, and Skopje who were deported to the Treblinka camp in 1943.
