In the third book of the project "Archive of Josip Broz Tito - documents for Macedonia (1970 - 1980)" by Dr. Novica Veljanoski are published 99 documents from the fund "Cabinet of the President of the Republic (KPR)" from the period 1970 - 1980, which are kept in the Archives of Yugoslavia in Belgrade. The documents selected in the book are, in fact, created during the last ten years of the life and work of Josip Broz Tito. That is why they are very important because they are created in very specific domestic and foreign policy conditions.
The criteria according to which the editor was guided in the selection of the documents are the same as in the selection of the documents in the two books before. Those documents that have value for science have been selected, especially the historical ones and, mainly, those that refer to Macedonia because it was an integral part of the Yugoslav federation. SR Macedonia bordered on three important Balkan neighbors of SFR Yugoslavia with which relations were delicate mostly due to the urgency of the Macedonian issue. The anti-liberalist coup of 1973 in SR Macedonia and the hesitation of Josip Broz Tito between a solid and disintegrated federation are shown through documents that shed light on some aspects of our recent national history.
In order to facilitate access to the published documents, the editor gave a brief overview of the overall Yugoslav domestic and foreign policy environment in the last ten years in which the documents were created.
The selected documents show the need of Josip Broz Tito for constant information about the work of the central government bodies in the federation and about the party activities in the republics. They cover the internal political situation, such as the struggle for self-government in all segments of society and the dominant role of the Union of Communists, and in foreign policy the struggle for the affirmation of the non-aligned movement and relations with neighbors. Constitutional changes, the idea of joint work of Edward Kardelj and his role in the break-up of Yugoslavia, the end of state centralism, advocating the introduction of a free economy in the single Yugoslav market, the national question in Yugoslavia are the subject of some of the selected documents in this volume.
