International Women's Day is a world holiday that is celebrated every year on March 8. It is a day when women's struggle for economic, political and social equality with men is commemorated.
The idea of commemoration originated at the insistence of the socialist movement in the 20th century. The first Women's Day was celebrated on February 28, 1909 in the United States. In 1910 under the auspices of the Second International in Copenhagen, the First International Women's Conference was held and it was decided to celebrate it in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. On March 8, 1913, women across Europe held peace meetings. However, March 8 has not been declared a public holiday in any western country. By decision of the United Nations in 1975, March 8 was declared International Women's Day.
