The interests and requests of emigrants before the Macedonian institutions are equally important as those of the citizens who permanently reside in the Republic of North Macedonia. Based on an initiative from the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) submitted to the State Archives, an inter-institutional coordination meeting was held yesterday between the Director of the State Archives, Prof. Dr. Natasha Kotlar-Trajkova, Erhan Ademi from the Office for Civil Registry Records, Goran Andjelov from the Agency for Emigration, and Gordan Jordanov, UMD Director for the Republic of Macedonia. The meeting was convened by the Director of the State Archives.
The initiative of the UMD consists of finding an efficient procedure for responding to the requests of emigrants seeking information about their ancestors originating from the Republic of North Macedonia — a responsibility that currently falls under the jurisdiction of the Office for Civil Registry Records. The purpose of the meeting was to develop guidelines for properly informing emigrants, coordinating the efforts of the three institutions in this direction with an emphasis on their respective responsibilities, as well as exploring creative solutions to simplify the procedures.
The meeting also addressed the initiation of digitization projects, potentially supported by the UMD. The Agency for Emigration will serve as a bridge between the relevant Macedonian institutions and diaspora organizations, ensuring communication of all future updates regarding the process of obtaining ancestral information for emigrants. The three institutions will provide ongoing and timely updates on the outcomes of this collaboration.
